Most interior design blogs will give you a pricing table and a list of materials.
This isn’t that.
This is the actual story of how we transformed a 1,450 sq ft 3BHK apartment in Whitefield, Bangalore — from bare walls to a fully finished, move-in-ready home in exactly 45 days. Every decision. Every delay. Every rupee.
We’re publishing this because we believe Bangalore homeowners deserve more than vague estimates and staged photos. You deserve to see what actually happens behind the scenes when you hire an interior designer in Bangalore for a full home project.
Let’s get into it.
The Client Brief: What We Were Working With
The homeowners: A couple in their early 30s. Both IT professionals. First home together.
The apartment: A 1,450 sq ft 3BHK in a gated community near Whitefield, East Bangalore. New construction. Builder-basic finishes. No civil work needed.
Their ask: A modern, warm interior with a fully functional modular kitchen, three wardrobes, living-dining area, a compact pooja unit, false ceiling with designer lighting, and a feature TV wall. They wanted it done before their housewarming — which gave us exactly 50 days from the first meeting.
Their budget: ₹14 lakhs, all-inclusive. Tight, but workable for the scope they wanted.
Here’s what happened next.
The Exact 45-Day Timeline (Week by Week)
Week 1 (Days 1–7): Design, Decisions & The First Surprise
The first three days were all about design. Our team visited the apartment, took measurements, photographed every corner, and sat with the couple for a two-hour design consultation.
By Day 4, we presented 3D renders for every room — modular kitchen layout, wardrobe configurations, TV unit options, false ceiling plans, and colour palettes.
What went right: The clients loved the initial concepts. We aligned on a warm minimalist theme — earthy neutrals, wood-tone laminates, matte black hardware, and soft ambient lighting. The kind of design that feels expensive without being loud.
What went wrong (Surprise #1): During our site survey, we discovered the kitchen wall had a 2-inch deviation from plumb. For a modular kitchen, that’s a serious problem. Modular cabinets need precision, and a crooked wall means gaps, misalignment, and a sloppy finish.
The fix: We allocated an additional day for wall correction work before modular installation could begin. This pushed our kitchen timeline by 48 hours — a small delay, but in a 45-day project, every day matters.
Cost impact: ₹8,500 for wall correction (plastering + leveling). Not in the original estimate. We absorbed it.
Week 2 (Days 8–14): Material Procurement & Factory Production Begins
This is where having our own modular factory gives us a massive advantage over most interior designers in Bangalore.
While other firms depend on third-party vendors — where your order sits in a queue behind 20 other projects — our factory started cutting, edging, and assembling the modular kitchen, wardrobes, and TV unit within 48 hours of design sign-off.
Key materials selected:
| Component | Material Choice | Why This Choice |
|---|---|---|
| Kitchen carcass | BWR-grade plywood (710 density) | Moisture-resistant. Essential for Bangalore’s humidity |
| Kitchen shutters | Acrylic finish, matte champagne | Premium look without the premium-laminate price |
| Wardrobe interiors | Pre-laminated MDF with soft-close hinges | Cost-efficient, durable, silent operation |
| TV unit | Combination of PU paint + back-painted glass | Statement piece without blowing the budget |
| False ceiling | Gyproc gypsum board + cove lighting | Clean lines, easy maintenance |
| Hardware | Hettich hinges + Hafele accessories | Non-negotiable — cheap hardware ruins good furniture |
What we ordered externally: Curtains, wallpaper for the master bedroom accent wall, and bathroom accessories. Everything else was manufactured in-house.
The lesson here: Material procurement is where 80% of interior design delays happen in Bangalore. Vendors deliver late. Colours don’t match. Quantities fall short. When you control the factory, you control the timeline.
Week 3 (Days 15–21): Site Work Begins — Electrical, False Ceiling & Painting
Three workstreams ran simultaneously:
1. Electrical rewiring for new light points The original builder wiring supported basic tube lights. Our false ceiling design needed 47 new light points — recessed LED downlights, cove lights, pendant drops in the dining area, and under-cabinet strips in the kitchen.
Our electrician completed this in 3 days.
2. False ceiling framework Gyproc board installation across the living room, dining area, master bedroom, and kitchen. We used a stepped-profile design in the living room and a simple peripheral ceiling in the bedrooms to keep the budget in check.
3. Wall preparation and painting Two coats of Asian Paints Royale Luxury Emulsion in a custom shade — “Warm Linen” for the main walls, “Soft Clay” as an accent in the master bedroom.
What went wrong (Surprise #2): On Day 18, Bangalore delivered one of its infamous mid-week downpours. Our painting crew lost a full day because the humidity spiked above 85%, and fresh paint won’t cure properly in those conditions.
The fix: We extended painting into the evening hours once humidity dropped, using portable dehumidifiers to speed up drying. The team worked until 10 PM for two consecutive nights to recover the lost day.
Cost impact: ₹3,200 for dehumidifier rental and overtime labour. Again, we absorbed this.
Week 4 (Days 22–28): The Big Installation Week
This is the week that makes or breaks an interior design project.
Day 22–24: Modular kitchen installation Our installation team arrived at 8 AM with the complete kitchen — carcasses, shutters, countertop, backsplash tiles, chimney, and hob. The L-shaped kitchen had:
- Floor-to-ceiling tall unit with pull-out pantry
- Corner carousel for dead-corner storage
- Soft-close drawers throughout
- Quartz countertop in “Calcutta White”
- Integrated dustbin unit below the sink
Installed in 3 days. Tested. Functional.
Day 25–26: Wardrobe installation (all three bedrooms) The master bedroom got a floor-to-ceiling sliding wardrobe with a loft — mirror finish on one panel, wood-tone laminate on the other. The second bedroom got a hinged wardrobe with a study unit attached. The third bedroom (guest room) got a compact two-door wardrobe with internal drawers.
Day 27–28: Living room installations The TV unit went up on Day 27. Back-painted glass panel behind the TV, floating shelves on either side, a base unit with storage. The feature wall transformed the entire room.
The pooja unit — a compact CNC-cut wooden mandir with LED backlit jaali was installed in the foyer niche on Day 28.
What went right this week: Everything. When your manufacturing and installation teams are the same company not subcontracted strangers, coordination becomes seamless. No miscommunication. No finger-pointing. No “the carpenter said the designer said,” chaos.
Week 5 (Days 29–35): Detailing, Fixes & The Moment of Truth
Day 29–30: Wallpaper installation in master bedroom A textured, fabric-feel wallpaper in muted sage green on the bed-back wall. Cost: ₹12,000 for material and installation. One of the highest-impact, lowest-cost upgrades in the entire project.
Day 31–32: Lighting fixtures and final electrical All 47 light points got their fixtures. The dining area pendant light became the talking point of the room — a simple brass-finish cage pendant that cost ₹4,500 but looks like it costs ₹15,000.
Day 33: Curtain installation Sheer curtains in the living room for diffused natural light. Blackout curtains in all three bedrooms. Curtain rods: matte black to match the hardware theme throughout.
Day 34–35: Deep cleaning and snagging Our quality team did a full snagging inspection:
Cleaned every surface, cabinet interior, and glass panel.
Week 6 (Days 36–45): Buffer, Final Touches & Handover
Why did we take 45 days when we promise 30?
Honest answer: this project had a larger scope than a standard 30-day package. Three bedrooms with custom wardrobes, a full modular kitchen, extensive false ceiling work, 47 new electrical points, wallpaper, and a custom pooja unit. Our 30-day delivery commitment covers standard packages. For a full-home luxury fitout of this scale, 45 days is the realistic, responsible timeline.
We could have rushed it. We chose not to. Because a home you’ll live in for the next 10–15 years deserves those extra days of precision.
Day 36–40: Final touch-ups, spot painting corrections, and bathroom accessory installation (towel rods, soap dispensers, mirror cabinets).
Day 41–43: Buffer days. In this case, we used them for a minor modification the client requested — adding an additional shelf inside the master wardrobe and swapping the kitchen backsplash profile from a flat tile to a herringbone pattern. Both changes were completed within the buffer window at no additional cost.
Day 44: Final walkthrough with the clients.
Day 45: Handover. Keys in hand. Home ready.
What We’d Tell Every Bangalore Homeowner Before They Start.
After hundreds of projects across Whitefield, Koramangala, HSR Layout, Electronic City, Sarjapur Road, JP Nagar, Bannerghatta, and beyond — here’s what we wish every homeowner knew before starting their interior design project:
Keep a 10–15% budget buffer. Not because designers inflate costs, but because real-world variables — material price changes, site surprises, your own change requests — are inevitable. A ₹14 lakh project should have ₹1.5–2 lakhs kept aside. You’ll either use it or save it.
Ask your designer who manufactures the modular furniture. If they outsource to a third-party factory, your timeline and quality are in someone else’s hands. At Elegante, we manufacture everything in our own facility — which is why we can offer a 15-year warranty on all modular products.
Don’t finalize your design in a rush. Spend time on the 3D renders. Walk through them virtually. Ask questions. The design phase is free to change. Once manufacturing starts, every revision costs time and money.
Prioritize hardware over aesthetics. A ₹200 hinge that fails in 18 months will cost you more in frustration than a ₹600 Hettich hinge that lasts 15 years. We use premium hardware on every project — it’s non-negotiable.
Weather matters in Bangalore. If your project timeline falls between June–September (monsoon season), add 5–7 days to your expected completion date. Painting, polishing, and certain adhesive applications are humidity-sensitive.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a 3BHK interior design cost in Bangalore in 2026?
A complete 3BHK interior design in Bangalore typically costs between ₹8 lakhs and ₹25 lakhs, depending on the apartment size, material quality, and level of customisation. At Elegante Interiors, our standard 3BHK packages start at ₹8 lakhs and go up to ₹20 lakhs+ for fully customised luxury fitouts. Use our price calculator to get an instant estimate.
How long does interior design take for a 3BHK apartment?
For a standard scope (modular kitchen + wardrobes + TV unit + basic false ceiling), expect 30–45 days. For a full-home luxury fitout with extensive false ceiling work, custom pooja unit, wallpaper, and detailed electrical upgrades, 45–60 days is more realistic. Rush timelines are possible but typically add 15–20% to the project cost.
Does Elegante Interiors have its own manufacturing facility?
Yes. Unlike most interior designers in Bangalore who outsource modular manufacturing, Elegante has its own modular factory. This gives us direct control over material quality, production timelines, and costs — which is why we can offer a 15-year warranty on all modular products and consistently deliver within committed timelines.
What’s included in the interior design cost?
A typical Elegante project includes design consultation, 3D renders, material procurement, manufacturing, site installation, painting coordination, electrical upgrades, hardware, and deep cleaning. Civil work (plumbing, structural changes, tiling) is quoted separately if needed.
Can I make changes after the design is finalized?
Yes, but with a caveat. Changes during the design phase are free and encouraged — that’s why we invest heavily in 3D renders. Changes after manufacturing begins will add to the timeline and cost. We always recommend finalizing every detail during the design phase itself.
Do you serve all areas in Bangalore?
Absolutely. We’ve completed projects across Whitefield, Koramangala, HSR Layout, Electronic City, JP Nagar, Bannerghatta, Indiranagar, Yelahanka, Jayanagar, and 80+ other Bangalore neighbourhoods.
